Our Story
If there's one thing you should know about us, it's that we're slightly obsessed with pies.
Not in a "collecting pie-themed ornaments" sort of way. More in a "that pastry could be better" sort of way.
Pies & Tarts began with a simple idea: to make the kind of food we'd be genuinely excited to take home ourselves. Proper pies, generous fillings, flaky pastry and no cutting corners.
We're based on the Essex and Suffolk border, where the pace is a little slower, people still appreciate good food, and nobody's afraid to tell you when something tastes good. Or when it doesn't.
Every pie, tart and sausage roll is made by hand in small batches, inspired by the countryside, coastline and market towns we call home. From the fishing heritage of the Essex coast to the farms and villages scattered across Constable Country, we're lucky to be surrounded by some of the best produce and food traditions in Britain.
Most weekends you'll find us somewhere between Colchester, Dedham Vale and Bury St Edmunds, or one of the many fantastic events we attend throughout the year. We love the chats as much as the selling. In fact, if you stop by the stall for a pie, there's a fair chance you'll get a story, a recommendation and probably an opinion on pastry thrown in for free.
What started as a passion for pies has grown into a business built around community, good food and familiar faces. We now have customers who visit us market after market and who'll happily tell us if we've dared change a recipe they've fallen in love with.
And honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way.
When you buy from Pies & Tarts, you're supporting a local independent business that still believes food should be made properly. No shortcuts. No skimping on fillings. No wondering where the meat's gone.
Just honest food, inspired by the place we call home.
So whether you've tracked us down at a market, discovered us online, or simply followed the smell of freshly baked pastry, we're delighted you're here.
Choose your pie, grab a plate, and enjoy.
"Life's complicated enough. food doesn't need to be."
